“And we’re sitting here now with essentially open borders. And now we’re being presented basically with the same proposition, amnesty for promises to do something about the border. And they point out, “Look, in this bill we don’t really give the amnesty until we get the border secure. We promise to get the border secure.” They don’t get it. They don’t get it that putting it on a piece of paper anymore, even passing it into law, does not convince the American people that they will do what they say they’re going to do.”
By a 2-to-1 margin (60% to 28%), Americans believe it is more important to gain control of the nation’s borders than to “legalize the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.”
So what does the immigration bill do? Legalize now, and promise enforcement later. And it only promises 371 miles of enforcement.
